Rahul Gandhi’s resignation as Congress president after the May 23 Lok Sabha debacle has not been accepted by the party. While the BJP government is in full action mode, Rahul’s ambivalence about his status has paralysed the Congress headquarters and routine organisational decisions lie unattended.

The party’s chief spokesperson, Randeep Singh Surjewala, is the only reliable person at work. As partymen wait for their leader to emerge from his self-imposed seclusion, Rahul has been meeting a diverse set of visitors in Delhi— Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar, a Chinese delegation led by Li Xi of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Congress rebel Navjot Singh Sidhu.
