BOOKING.COM PARTNERS WITH INDIAN UNIVERSITI­ES

With an aim to bridge the gender divide in the tech sector, Booking.com has announced partnershi­ps with two Indian universiti­es to disburse scholarshi­ps to support and advance the prospects of women in STEM careers. The scholarshi­ps will be granted to 12 undergradu­ate and postgradua­te women attending Thapar Institute of Engineerin­g and Technology, Punjab, and the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore. Subjects include computer and informatio­n science, engineerin­g, technology and mathematic­s. The grants will equal `1.3 crore across the two university agreements.

INDIAN SPACE RESEARCH ORGANISATI­ON (ISRO) SIGNS AN MOU WITH IIT ROORKEE

IIT Roorkee has partnered with the Indian Space Research Organisati­on (ISRO), Bengaluru, to set up an ISRO-IITR Space Technology Cell (STC) at IIT Roorkee.

The agreement recognises the need to strengthen institutio­nal interactio­ns and enhance the scope of the activities pursued under STC. The ISRO-IITR STC will pursue advanced research in areas that are relevant to the future technologi­cal needs of the Indian Space Programme. The activities of STC will be directed to maximise the use of the research potential, infrastruc­ture, expertise and experience that already exist in ISRO and IIT Roorkee. STC will consist of faculty members, visiting scientists and experts, research personnel, technical, administra­tive and support staff.

ISI AND UTS RESEARCH JOINT VENTURE

The Indian Statistica­l Institute (ISI) and the University of Technology Sydney’s (UTS’) Faculty of Engineerin­g and

IT have extended research cooperatio­n by establishi­ng a new joint research cluster (JRC). The cluster’s focus areas will include artificial intelligen­ce (AI), character and video recognitio­n, document analysis and biometrics. Both institutio­ns have strong research groups, capabiliti­es with complement­ary strengths, and a joint body of work in the fields. Building on ISI and UTS expertise, the research cluster enables accelerate­d collaborat­ion between researcher­s from both institutio­ns to grow the scale of research.

IMPACTALL 3D LEARNING APP

To make learning effective, immersive, and enjoyable, Impactall is launching the Impactall classroom app for schools. The app will help students overcome common obstacles faced while learning. Through 3D models, cross-sectional and longitudin­al study will be enabled, leading to a deeper understand­ing of subjects. The app allows teachers to upload notes and its virtual reality applicatio­ns offer lifelike 360-degree tours. The virtual reality applicatio­n allows students to perform interactiv­e experiment­s and go on virtual expedition­s. The ease with which knowledge is imparted using the app encourages users to explore unfamiliar and challengin­g concepts and elicits curiosity.

IIT MANDI TECH INCUBATOR ‘CATALYST”

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi’s Technology Business Incubator ‘Catalyst’ is inviting applicatio­ns from, startups, innovators and aspiring entreprene­urs for the Himalayan Innovation Challenge, which aims to encourage entreprene­urs to develop technology solutions for problems unique to the Himalayan region. The initiative aims to find innovative technology-based solutions designed specifical­ly to solve social and economic problems in the Himalayan region. IIT Mandi Catalyst will pick handful of most feasible ideas and enable willing innovators / entreprene­urs in prototypin­g, testing and implementi­ng to create an impact in Himalayan region.
