BOOKING.COM PARTNERS WITH INDIAN UNIVERSITIES
With an aim to bridge the gender divide in the tech sector, Booking.com has announced partnerships with two Indian universities to disburse scholarships to support and advance the prospects of women in STEM careers. The scholarships will be granted to 12 undergraduate and postgraduate women attending Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Punjab, and the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore. Subjects include computer and information science, engineering, technology and mathematics. The grants will equal `1.3 crore across the two university agreements.
INDIAN SPACE RESEARCH ORGANISATION (ISRO) SIGNS AN MOU WITH IIT ROORKEE
IIT Roorkee has partnered with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Bengaluru, to set up an ISRO-IITR Space Technology Cell (STC) at IIT Roorkee.
The agreement recognises the need to strengthen institutional interactions and enhance the scope of the activities pursued under STC. The ISRO-IITR STC will pursue advanced research in areas that are relevant to the future technological needs of the Indian Space Programme. The activities of STC will be directed to maximise the use of the research potential, infrastructure, expertise and experience that already exist in ISRO and IIT Roorkee. STC will consist of faculty members, visiting scientists and experts, research personnel, technical, administrative and support staff.
ISI AND UTS RESEARCH JOINT VENTURE
The Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) and the University of Technology Sydney’s (UTS’) Faculty of Engineering and
IT have extended research cooperation by establishing a new joint research cluster (JRC). The cluster’s focus areas will include artificial intelligence (AI), character and video recognition, document analysis and biometrics. Both institutions have strong research groups, capabilities with complementary strengths, and a joint body of work in the fields. Building on ISI and UTS expertise, the research cluster enables accelerated collaboration between researchers from both institutions to grow the scale of research.
IMPACTALL 3D LEARNING APP
To make learning effective, immersive, and enjoyable, Impactall is launching the Impactall classroom app for schools. The app will help students overcome common obstacles faced while learning. Through 3D models, cross-sectional and longitudinal study will be enabled, leading to a deeper understanding of subjects. The app allows teachers to upload notes and its virtual reality applications offer lifelike 360-degree tours. The virtual reality application allows students to perform interactive experiments and go on virtual expeditions. The ease with which knowledge is imparted using the app encourages users to explore unfamiliar and challenging concepts and elicits curiosity.
IIT MANDI TECH INCUBATOR ‘CATALYST”
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi’s Technology Business Incubator ‘Catalyst’ is inviting applications from, startups, innovators and aspiring entrepreneurs for the Himalayan Innovation Challenge, which aims to encourage entrepreneurs to develop technology solutions for problems unique to the Himalayan region. The initiative aims to find innovative technology-based solutions designed specifically to solve social and economic problems in the Himalayan region. IIT Mandi Catalyst will pick handful of most feasible ideas and enable willing innovators / entrepreneurs in prototyping, testing and implementing to create an impact in Himalayan region.
