With a fully digitised learning management system, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) aims to impart skills to the students so that they are ready for the global job market. Founded in 1984, VIT is spread over a 360acre, eco-friendly campus in Vellore. It also has a second campus in Chennai. The institute has a multicultural ambience with students and faculty from across the world. Anand A Samuel, Vice-Chancellor of
VIT says, “More than 150 professors from universities abroad have been appointed as adjunct professors at VIT. There are students from across India and 53 different countries studying at VIT.” The institute is also involved in high tech futuristic research and students are trained to take up research work at their undergraduate level. VIT also has 10 specialised research centres on campus that focus on transdisciplinary and translatory research aiming at new product development. The university also provides an ecosystem for entrepreneurship to flourish and has established a TBI (Technology Business Incubator) that helps students work on their start-ups. The first-year B Tech students at VIT are often seen working on projects in the areas of Virtual Reality, Internet of Things, 3D Printing, wearable tech, bio-inspired design and smart grids in specially created labs. Students are also exposed to coding assignments to keep them abreast of the industry needs. —By Harshita Das
