H.D. Revanna, public works minister in the Janata Dal (Secular)-Congress government in Karnataka and son of former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda, is known to be superstitious. Since July 5, he has been appearing barefoot at official engagements and public events. On July 8, he entered the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru without footwear. His followers said he was following his astrologer’s advice to save the government after 14 legislators from the Congress and JD(S) resigned and left for Mumbai. During the Lok Sabha election, Revanna was seen carrying nine lemons in his hand during campaigning, but it did nothing to improve the JD(S) performance. Will walking unshod help the cause?
