Union fi­nance min­is­ters usu­ally type out their bud­get speeches on desk­top com­put­ers that have no net­work ac­cess. This is to en­sure the se­crecy of the bud­get. Nir­mala Sithara­man went one step fur­ther this time, tak­ing things into her own hands. The fi­nance min­is­ter de­cided to hand­write the en­tire 60-page bud­get speech she pre­sented on July 5. No mean feat, given that the speech was over 20,000 words long.
