Design is a language that we all speak and it is not just the domain of artists. With technology controlling our lives, the design schools need to keep pace and train students to be all-rounders. In order to offer these creative minds a platform to channelise their strengths, to understand, think and articulate new ideas, the schools need to move away from outdated teaching methods. At the Gurukul School of Design (GSD) in Jaipur, students are taught all facets of design. Started by fashion designer Raghavendra Rathore in partnership with Tarang Arora, Director of Amrapali Jewels, GSD welcomed its first batch in August 2018 and teaches students the value of world culture through

its interpretation of the gurukul way of life. “The 360-degree approach towards all aspects of design is a unique methodology that the curriculum is based on. This will enable the students to become entrepreneurs as soon as they graduate,” says Rathore. Spread over 10,000 sq yards, the campus exudes a rustic charm and the classrooms have been designed like lounges to allow students creative freedom while

they learn several aspects of design.

WHAT’S GOOD A typical day at GSD begins with meditation, wellness exercises and yoga followed by classes in the digital lab, draping room, or sometimes under the sun under the tree in the lawns. The school offers a fouryear bachelor of design integrated programme and teaches students design, technology, management and well-being.
