The WC is changing, not only in terms of looks and water saving ability but also the technology behind it. Here’s a look at key toilet trends.
From top WC trends, fancy faucet technology and latest tiles in the market to figuring out if the modern apartment still needs a tub, six different types of showerheads to know before you buy one, quick plumbing solutions and beautifully designed bath spaces—here's all you need to know about the most intimate space in your home
Gone are the days when all you needed to choose was whether you wanted a wall mounted WC or an independent unit on the floor. Today you also have to choose between function, form, style and the number of high-tech features. So, here are the top trends from this space.
TOILETS BECOME SMARTER
Just when we were wrapping our heads around the idea of the idiot box becoming a smart TV, intelligent toilets became all the rage. “The smart toilets include automated functions for cleansing, drying, perfuming, adjustable pressure, temperature control, massage functions, dryer function along with power saving technology,” says KE Ranganathan, MD, Roca Bathroom Products. A good example is Roca In-Wash Inspira, a smart toilet with presence sensor and the night LED light. You can use a remote control to activate and adjust the cleaning and drying functions. Equally high-tech is the Veil toilet from Kohler. Personal cleansing and an LED night light to hands-free opening and closing—all the features are controlled via a touchscreen LCD remote control. ViClean-I 100 from Villeroy & Boch can be operated by remote control or a smartphone app. It has several water spray functions.
RISE OF RIMLESS WCs
“A rimless toilet is significantly easier to clean and makes the toilet more hygienic. It also prevents the toilet from germ built-up, lime scaling and dirt deposition,” says Rajeev Mittal, GM – PMG & Marketing, Johnson Bathrooms, adding, “Rimless toilets use a direct flush technique that shoots water around the bowl of the toilet rather than distributing conventional box rim toilets. This washes the toilet pan efficiently and saves water.” Several rimless WCs from Johnson Bathrooms come with innovative technologies such as 360° flushing that also saves water. Then there is the DuraStyle, a rimless WC from Duravit. Water enters the bowl evenly and powerfully so that the entire interior surface is fully rinsed during the flushing process.
