VIKRAM: THE LAN­DER

The Vikram lan­der was in­dige­nously de­vel­oped, af­ter Rus­sia (which was to pro­vide the lan­der) backed out of a joint ef­fort. Though the lan­deror­biter sep­a­ra­tion went smoothly, Vikram failed to make the soft land­ing on the south po­lar re­gion of the Moon. Per­fect­ing this tech­nol­ogy will be key in fur­ther in­ter­plan­e­tary ex­plo­rations.

PRAGYAN: THE ROVER

Af­ter land­ing, this in­dige­nously de­signed and built six-wheeled ro­botic ve­hi­cle was to emerge from Vikram’s belly. Pragyan was to rove the nearby ar­eas of the moon and search for signs of wa­ter dur­ing its week-long life­span
