Fol­low­ing a de­bate over the im­po­si­tion of Hindi as In­dia’s com­mon lan­guage, Ker­ala has de­cided to con­duct the state pub­lic ser­vice ex­am­i­na­tions, in­clud­ing the state ad­min­is­tra­tive ser­vice ex­ams, in Malay­alam, as well as in English. Af­ter a two-week hunger strike by cit­i­zens, ac­tivists and per­son­al­i­ties like film­maker Adoor Gopalakr­ish­nan, CM Pi­narayi Vi­jayan an­nounced that exam pa­pers would hence­forth be printed in both lan­guages. Talk about over­com­ing lan­guage bar­ri­ers!
