A beautiful home, a how-to guide, and looks to replicate—this is all you need to know to bring magical motifs indoors

Rooted in Indian tradition yet modern and sophisticated is the best way to describe Kalyan and Sangeeta’s home in Bangalore, designed for a family with four generations living together. It is a space symbolic of modernism and progress but imbibed in culture and values. The result, prints and patterns meet and create a magically whole.

All the family members were involved right from the conceptualising stage. Their life stories of challenges, achievements and memories gave us the all the input required to design their dream house resonating with emotions and feelings of each family member. The living room boasts of space and openness where the entire family can spend time together. It has a stone temple and large idols that they wanted in their home.

In the master bedroom, the duskiness of the wood and snowiness of the white walls balance each other while the deep fuchsia sofa acts as the highlight. The use of the neutral tones elevated the amplified coffered ceiling and wall engraving. An example of a perfect modern luxury. The

daughter’s room is spruced up with baby pink polka dots wallpaper symbolising friendship, inner-peace and harmony. Playful and quaint effect is brought in through the white and black murals and wooden study.

The mother’s room has an ethereal combination of amicable greenish grey, white, beige and shades of tan. To fit in her colossal collection of sarees, an elongated cupboard in greenish-grey contrasts well with the gold handles and knobs. This bedroom is the perfect combination of Indian heritage and the modern solids and prints she admires bridging the gap between her olden days and modern trends. The sober interiors are enhanced by a wooden flooring and heritage print on the wall.

The design of this home rests on balance, on introducing bold motifs and colours interspaced with neutral tones and textures.
