Cachar’s district headquarte­rs, Silchar, is the business hub of Assam’s Barak valley

Why it won

Cachar’s per capita GDP increased from Rs 42,000 to Rs 70,000 between 2011 and 2017. The number of households in the district earning less than Rs 75,000 annually is comparativ­ely low. The district found place among the top 10 improved districts in other parameters as well, such as bank credit per person (#8) and labour force participat­ion in the industrial sector (#8)

Why it won

The district ranked #1 in most parameters including per capita GDP, per capita spending, bank credit per person, percentage of households availing of banking services, the availabili­ty of bank branches, the availabili­ty of ATMs and workers employed in the service sector. Its performanc­e was above average in other parameters as well
