People with more than twochildren were barred from contesting panchayat polls; revoked in 2005
HARYANA 1994
No person with more than two children could contest the panchayat/ zila parishad poll; revoked in 2006
RAJASTHAN 1994
Anyone with more than two children, cannot contest panchayat election; Compulsory retirement for government employees on the birth of their third child—this provision revoked in 2018
GUJARAT 2005
Disqualifies anyone with more than two children from contesting local body elections
MAHARASHTRA 2003
Disqualifies people with more than two children from contesting local body elections, holding a job in the state government and accessing PDS benefits
UTTARAKHAND 2002
Bars people with more than two children from contesting local body elections; applicable after July 2019
UTTAR PRADESH 2021 (draft stage)
Anyone with more than two children will be debarred from contesting local bodies polls, applying for government jobs, getting promotions and receiving any kind of subsidy. Public servants who adopt the two-child norm will get multiple benefits including priority promotion

MADHYA PRADESH 2000
If the third child was born on or after January 26, 2001, one becomes ineligible for government jobs. In 2005, the two-child norm for candidates of local body elections was revoked
