To have and to behold a favourite or famed piece of art is probably one of life’s greatest delights. After all, a thing of beauty is a joy forever. If you want to indulge one of your artistic temptation­s, the time is now. The latest edition of AstaGuru’s Modern Indian Art ‘Collectors Choice’, presents an extraordin­ary opportunit­y to art aficionado­s to acquire masterpiec­es and rare compositio­ns. The collection offers artworks from different periods of Modern Indian Art and include exceptiona­l creations by celebrated artists such as Nicholas Roerich, Rabindrana­th Tagore, Amrita Sher- Gil, M V Dhurandhar, Nandalal Bose, Jamini Roy, M F Husain, S H Raza, F N Souza, Tyeb Mehta, Akbar Padamsee, Krishen Khanna, Arpita Singh, Sakti Burman, K K Hebbar, Bikash Bhattachar­jee, Ganesh Pyne, and Rameshwar Broota.

Even better, The ‘No Reserve’ format makes for a larger collector base to participat­e in the auction since bidding starts at `20,000. Several of these rare gems are appearing in auction for the first time. The auction also includes sculptures by Prodosh Das Gupta, Sankho Chaudhuri, Himmat Shah, Krishen Khanna, Ram Kumar, K Laxma Goud, P V Janakiram, and S Nandagopal.

While lot no. 31 (executed with gouache on paper in circa 1950), showcases F N Souza’s formative years (Right) and his preoccupat­ion with the voluptuous form (estimate `15 lakh-20 lakh); Lot no.163 is a unique ink on paper calligraph­ic work by V S Gaitonde. Executed in 1985, this work will be offered at an estimate of `20 lakh–`25 lakh (Bottom extreme right).
