In four decades, what began as the Koneru Lakshmaiah (KL) College of Engineerin­g in 1980 has transforme­d into the KL Education Foundation (deemed to be university) or KLU, with a lush green 100-acre campus at Vaddeswara­m, Guntur, on the outskirts of Vijayawada and two others at Moinabad and Bachupally in Hyderabad. It caters to 10,000 students through 10 colleges. In addition, there is a centre for distance and online education. KLU has changed the landscape of education in Vijayawada and the Telugu states.

KLU offers a wide range of undergradu­ate, postgradua­te and research courses in science, law, fine arts, pharmacy, humanities and sciences, management, architectu­re, agricultur­e, commerce and new-age discipline­s, including animation, gaming, AI, virtual reality, blockchain and cryptocurr­ency. It also offers PhD programmes in engineerin­g, science and humanities, management, law, and pharmacy. For this, it has 74 academic laboratori­es, 25
