Eat, Prey, Love

The white-walled utopia of Olive Café & Bar, Chandigarh, opens doors in the delightful metropolitan.

- By RUPALI DEAN

Olive’s Chandigarh outpost is a fine example of design equilibrium where Mediterranean and contemporary design elements do not joust for judgement but are symbiotic in their interplay with nature’s essentials, in the alfresco courtyard. Chef Jyotika Malik joyously summons a gourmet cafe and eclectic menu to the table. Try the stellar Ravioli, succulent bites of prawns lovingly ensconced in the pasta, floating in a luxurious garlic sauce. Buttermilk fried chicken bun, a winner of a dish, has great texture, and deserves a definite thumbs-up. The Café’s Mezze platter, which includes falafel, goat’s cheese and spinach Borek for the vegetarians, and shish taouk, chermoula prawns and lamb koftas for the carnivores; accompanied with muhammara, hummus, tzatziki, kalamata olives, feta cheese, pickles and lavaash is a fiesta of buttery deliciousness.

We recommend the sun-dried tomato chicken Espetada at lunch time; it offers a fine balance of flavours and does a good job of rous

ing your appetite for more. Apart from Olive’s all-time favoured Sorbet Gin-To, you will get to savour other interesting cocktails such as the signature Teq-Tonics in which tequila is infused with herbs, fruits and flowers such as pimentos, hibiscus and grapefruit, and served with tonic water. Count on a friendly vibe and a tasty meal. Olive Café Chandigarh is definitely a sold-out option no matter the time of day or night.
