CHANAKYA—THE GRAND PRESIDENTIAL SUITE, ITC MAURYA, New Delhi

-

Christened Chanakya, after the Prime Minister and advisor to the Mauryan Emperor, Chandragupta (340 BC – 293 BC), the Grand Presidential Suite bridges the past and the future in a way that ITC knows best. ITC Hotels’ flagship property, ITC Maurya, is built as an homage to this period, and the interiors of this suite extrapolate this ode to love. This space is almost like a walk in time, where faux stone panels on the door typify the entrance panels of Sanchi and several other stupas that epitomise the Mauryan period. The chair rail draws inspiration from the typical railings found throughout Mauryan excavation sites, while a flavour of a roughhewn wall (entrance door wall) with the Pali script engraved in gold leaf, faux stone replicas of the chakras, mandalas and sermon given by Ashoka adorn the walls. The greatest story-telling involves the thrill of sharing this space with some of the greatet leaders of our time such as the Dalai Lama, Presidents Bill Clinton, George W Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump, Tony Blair, Vladimir Putin, King Abdullah, and the Sultan of Brunei to name a few. Personalised culinary experiences involve indulging any guest preference, where ingredients can be flown in from the country of origin to offer exclusivity on a platter. At 5,155 sq.ft, it offers 11 bays, two bedrooms and an additional three rooms that can be attached by the suite corridor. A Personal gym, steam and sauna rooms from ‘Knullwald’ are just some of the peripheral luxuries thrown in. This is a history lesson enjoyed in the portals of luxury.
