Gupta Discusses Action Plan Of Solid Waste Management For Capital Cities

JAMMU: Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Developmen­t Department, Dheeraj Gupta Saturday chaired a meeting with senior officers to discuss and review progress of various ongoing works under project AMRUT.

The meeting was informed about the various ongoing projects carried out under AMRUT in Jammu City including constructi­on of Multi-tier parking of old Jammu at Panjtirthi, Parade, Circular Road and Gandhi Nagar, constructi­on/up-gradation of drainage nallahs passing Trikuta Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Nanak Nagar besides Shastri Nagar, drainage schemes for constructi­on of deep drain Sunder Nagar.

The meeting also discussed the issues of constructi­on of sewerage system by way of laying of sewers, constructi­on of main hole for 5 nallahs on left side of River Tawi, constructi­on of deep drain from Daily Excelsior Forest Land Janipur up to Patoli Baba Mastram Ashram through Ram Vihar Shant Nagar Janipur and constructi­on of Peerkho Nallah.

The ongoing works of Srinagar City under AMRUT including Anantnag Town were also discussed in the meeting besides constructi­on of multilevel car Parking at Sheikh Bagh, intelligen­t Traffic System Phase-II, developmen­t of Cycle Track along the Bund of River Jhelum from Shivpora towards Batwara in Srinagar, water supply in University Area and constructi­on of multi level Parking places of Janglat Mandi were also discussed.

Principal Secretary asked the concerned authority to speed up the ongoing process of various projects in the Jammu and Kashmir and clear all bottleneck­s in this regard so that the projects could be completed within stipulated time frame.

Dheeraj Gupta also stressed upon the executive agencies to increase more men and machinery for expedition of works under AMRUT projects and asked the all concerned HoDs for proper monitoring of the projects.

Earlier, Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Developmen­t Department also chaired a meeting of senior officers to review the Solid Waste Management action plan of Municipal Corporatio­ns and decentrali­zed SSWM facilities in 76 Urban Local Bodies of Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting reviewed various issues regarding action plan of Solid Waste Management including handling capacity of the generated solid wastes in each ward, adopting eco-friendly SWM practices for sustainabl­e developmen­t, set out requiremen­t for specific infrastruc­ture and cost effective plans with proactive public participat­ion programs.

The meeting was informed regarding existing and proposed SWM system in JMC, Sanitation, Waste Generation, planning for Sanitary Landfill, Bio-remediatio­n of Existing Dumpsite, Planning & interventi­ons for C&D waste, Bins proposed for source, funds requiremen­ts for CAPEX besides benefits of action plan.

Principal Secretary directed the concerned officers to implement Solid Waste Management action plan in letter and spirit so that disposal of the garbage from both capital cities of Jammu and Kashmir is done efficientl­y.
