Chase Goals not Marks

- Zuha Ashai Baagaat, Srinagar

Ihave scored satisfying marks and have achieved it with my capability. I’m not defending myself but I don’t want to delude myself either. I want to talk about the mindset of some people which is rampant in Kashmir. We people are unaware of the actual meaning of education which can be toxic for our future generations.

Education isn’t for learning how to make a living but to learn how to live. It isn’t about finding one’s ability by judging their marks in examinations just because a child couldn’t remember what a poet wrote in his poem isn’t going to tell us about their intelligence.

We can’t deny the fact that lakhs of people have scored full marks in exams and have achieved nothing in life because of unemployment.

So many people yearn for jobs, are depressed and are still living with this miserable mindset which needs to be changed.

Nobody thinks about the suicide cases after results are announced. Why is it happening? The answer is us.

Why is everyone interested in the 10th, 12th class results while nobody even cares about people who have no jobs and are suffering because of it? Jammu and Kashmir has the secondworst unemployment rate among the States in the country and nobody seems to care about this unfortunate thing. We’re only invested in running behind results when the main problem is thousands of adults sitting without jobs.

After results are out, everyone seems to give their two cents — some out of concern and others out of habit. But this leaves many demotivated and underappreciated.

Education has nothing to do with marks but is important to make us a better person every day. The most powerful weapon Allah has provided us with is our mind which is indeed the force behind success.

Our mindset needs to change from chasing marks to chasing goals. We know our worth, our capabilities and with the grace of Almighty, we can achieve so much in life.

Be kind, Be jubilant and Be grateful! For that is the true measure of success. May we all be crowned with happiness.
