Corona Surge Continues In J&K, 1516 Test Positive

Deadly Infection Claims 6 More Lives

Showing no sign of decline, coronaviru­s cases continue to peak in Jammu and Kashmir as 1516 more people, including 231 travellers tested positive for virus on Monday, while six more people succumbed to the infection during the last 24 hours in the Union Territory.

While 748 fresh cases of infection were reported from Kashmir valley, the remaining 768 were detected across the Jammu region, taking the total number of people infected by the virus since the outbreak of pandemic last year to 148208 in J&K.

On Sunday, J&K reported highest single day spike of this year with 1526 cases and six deaths.

Giving district wise details of the cases that include 231 travellers, officials said, Srinagar reported 383,

Baramulla 110, Budgam 46, Pulwama 29, Kupwara 36, Anantnag 48, Bandipora 14, Ganderbal 31, Kulgam 47, Shopian 4, Jammu 451, Udhampur 81, Rajouri 34, Doda 8, Kathua 38, Samba 33, Kishtwar 4, Poonch 4, Ramban 13and Reasi 102 fresh cases of coronaviru­s.

Of the six people that succumbed to the virus, officials said, two were residents of Jammu division and four others from the Valley. The victims from the Valley included a 65-year-old man from Anantnag, a 75-year-old man from Kupwara, 60-year-old man from Pulwama and a 43-year-old woman from Fateh Kadal Srinagar. With these deaths, the fatality count has reached 2063 in the Union Territory.

Moreover, officials said, 813 more patients have recovered—207 from Jammu Division and 606 from Kashmir.
