SRINAGAR: Srinagar Municipal Corporation's AntiEncroachment Squad Wednesday conducted antiencroachment drives in several areas of the City including Regal Chowk, Jehangir Chowk, Maharaja Bazaar, Dalgate, and other adjoining areas.
The drive was conducted under the supervision of Commissioner SMC Athar Amir Khan, who was also accompanied by Joint Commissioner Admin, Joint Commissioner Works, Chief Sanitation Officer, Chief Anti Encroachment Officer and other officials, an SMC statement said.
Action against encroachments along mains roads and markets was taken during the drive.
The goods that led to encroachment, displayed by street vendors and shopkeepers outside their shops were removed and seized on spot. SMC took cognisance of the violations and the violators were also fined.
“The Anti Encroachment Squad has been reorganised to ensure effective strategised and sustainable enforcement on ground to remove encroachments for smooth flow of traffic and pedestrian movement in the city.”
The drive will strictly continue and anyone found violating fundamental rules would be dealt with accordingly, said the Commissioner SMC.
Athar advised street vendors, shopkeepers to keep their belonging within their shop's premises, otherwise face the consequences, seizure and imposition of fine.
Meanwhile, Athar also inspected various business establishments and markets to review the adherence to the Covid 19 guidelines and made an appeal to people to follow religiously the protocol by wearing masks and maintaining social distance.
