Eid Leftovers

-

We are all aware of the fact that Eid is celebrated with extravaganza and fever in Kashmir every year. Every household spends thousands preparing for the festival, food, new clothes, shoes, furniture etc. We keep a check on almost everything we have to do before Eid comes and certainly we do not celebrate the festival without being completely prepared for it. What we mostly forget is that while we might have sufficient resources to be able to celebrate the festival with full fever, there are sections of the society which don’t. Infact, there are many people who cannot even afford a proper meal for eid. Children who do not even have anything clean to wear, leave apart wearing new clothes for eid. Children who have to walk barefoot because they cannot afford to buy shoes. People who have to work even on Eid in order to put a single piece of bread on their table at night. Just because Allah

(SWT) has bestowed us with uncountable blessings, does not mean that we simply ignore the conditions of our fellow human beings. We spend so much money buying an excessive amount of eatables which rot in our stores and fridges after Eid ends simply because there is too much for a single family to consume. People should take an initiative and distribute the leftover food or bakery and sweets among these underprivileged people. That is the absolute least we can do. They deserve that and it is certainly a right of theirs. Compassion and sympathy is what makes us human, and if we cannot even show compassion towards fellow human beings then we are really far from being humane. Even if we cannot do much, we can still do a little to contribute to humanity. Feeding the poor is one of the greatest deeds man can ever perform and your leftovers can be someone’s best meal.
