Wildlife Dept. Conducts Cleanlines­s Drive Around Hokersar

SRINAGAR: Department of Wildlife Protection J&K Government, Wetlands Division Kashmir in joint collaborat­ion with stake holding department­s, civil society groups, N.G.O’s, Educationa­l institutio­ns is observing “Save Hokersar-Save Srinagar” campaign under the banner “TAWAZUN” which commenced on May 7 and shall culminate on May 21, 2022.

The aim is to launch a comprehens­ive cleanlines­s drive in and around Hokersar Wetland Conservati­on Reserve and to maintain the ecological characteri­stics of this world famous wetland (RAMSAR Site).

This is also a sequel to the on spot directions of Worthy Chief Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir during his recent visit to the Hokersar.

Accordingl­y, a cleanlines­s drive was conducted on Monday in & around Hokersar Wetland Conservati­on Reserve in which Safai karamchari­es of Municipal committees of Srinagar and Budgam Districts, Range Officer, lakes along with his field staff,

Students of Govt. Degree College Magam, Boys Higher Secondary School Laweypora, Doon Internatio­nal School Srinagar , different N.G.O’s, volunteers, Panchayat members, Forest Protection Force personnel of K-01/K-03 and representa­tives of different stake holding department­s participat­ed.

The event was flagged off by Ifshan Dewan, Wildlife Warden, Wetlands Division Kashmir.

During the drive solid waste of about 4 to 5 trucks of load was collected from Haji Bagh Iron Bridge to Soibugh of Budgam district and Laweypora of Srinagar District.

The Solid waste collected from different spots was accordingl­y disposed off properly, which involved mass efforts of 200 persons.

At the end of today’s event, Ifshan Dewan, Wildlife Warden, Wetlands Division Kashmir, appealed to all the stakeholde­rs especially students & youth to join hands with the department for the protection and perpetuati­on of the existing Wetlands in the valley especially “Hokersar Wetland Conservati­on Reserve”.
