Intense Heat Wave Conditions Hit Normal Life
Brief Spell Of Rainfall Expected Today: MeT Dept
Kashmir Valley continues to reel under intense heat wave conditions with mercury settling at 34 degree Celsius mark in Srinagar on Monday, even as the weather department predicted a brief spell of light rain and thunderstorm in the region in the next 24 hours.
“As expected, the weather remained dry in the whole of Kashmir during the past 24 hours. Hot & dry weather is likely till evening whereas a brief spell of light Rain/ Thunderstorm is expected tomorrow,” Deputy Director of MeT in Srinagar, Mukhtar Ahmed told Kashmir Observer.
“There is no forecast of any major rainfall for next one week,” adding that a downfall in temperature is also expected in the region in the next 24 hours.
The official also said that scattered light to moderate rains in Jammu division are also forecasted for next 24 hours.
The meteorological department official also said that Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 34.0°C and a low of 24.0°C. The temperatures, he said, were 4.0°C and 6.3°C respectively above normal during this time of the year for the summer capital.
“Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rain and thundershowers are also expected in Kashmir for subsequent two days,” the deputy director told Kashmir Observer.
The ongoing month has already seen a vicious heat across J&K, with stagnant air bearing down on densely populated cities, like Jammu city and Srinagar city for several days in a row.
The continued warming occurs because the rate of heat input from the sun during the day continues to be greater than the cooling at night for several weeks, until temperatures start to descend in late July and early August.
Meanwhile,
Qazigund recorded a maximum of 32.3°C. The south Kashmir township had a low of 21.6°C against 22.3°C on the previous night. The minimum temperature was 6.1°C above normal for the place, he said.
Pahalgam recorded maximum of 29.0°C while the mercury settled at 18.6°C against 17.6°C, 7.8°C above normal, while Kokernag recorded maximum30.7°C and a low of 19.9°C which was 5.0°C above for the place, he said.
World famous Gulmarg resort recorded maximum of 23.5°C and a low of 14.8°C, 3.9°C above normal, while Kupwara town recorded maximum of 34.7°C saw a low of 21.5°C, 3.9°C higher than usual for this time of the season, the official said.
Jammu recorded a maximum of 36.1°C and a low of 26.6, 1.0°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said. Banihal recorded a low of 20.8°C, Batote 19.5°C, Katra 24.2°C while Bhadarwah had a minimum of 19.8°C, the official said.
