Law Enforcemen­t Agencies Have No Access To Public Data

Smart Cameras, Wi-Fi Hotspots Deterrent For Criminals: Jain

Srinagar: Allaying concerns about data privacy violation as a result of the installati­on of smart cameras and Wi-Fi hotspots in Srinagar, Additional Director General, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Rajiv Jain Saturday assured that the data privacy of people will not be compromise­d at all.

Jain, who is also the spokesman of MoHUA said the public service is supreme and that no law enforcemen­t or any other government agency will have access to the public data.

He said the smart cameras installed on road junctions in Srinagar will act as a deterrent for the criminals, which he said will be the major outcome of the mission smart city.

“Law enforcemen­t agencies will have no access to the public data and the data they may utilize, will be for the benefit of citizens. Data collected by the executing agencies will also be for the benefit of the public as public service is paramount and data privacy has been guaranteed here,” Jain said during a Power-Point presentati­on on smart city initiative­s at the Integrated Command and Control Center for SSCL here.

The Additional Director General said smart traffic, smart roads and integrated command and control centers are linked with public welfare in smart cities and the prevalence of smart cameras will help reduce crime rate in the city.

Congratula­ting SSCL for timely completion of majority of its projects, he said that notable projects like redevelopm­ent works will be completed in next two to three months while rest of the projects will be completed by June next year.

“Notable projects including redevelopm­ent of Polo-View market, Lal Chowk and pedestrian projects

is really a tremendous job, that makes people believe that cities are for the people and they will get a chance to visit public places with their families,” he added.

He said the projects could be completed only due to the cooperatio­n of the people, whose requiremen­ts, he said, were duly taken care of.
