HMT Zainakote Residents Decry Contaminated Water Supply

-

Srinagar: Amidst the holy month of Ramadan, the residents of HMT Zainakote area on Srinagar outskirts have complained that they are forced to consume muddy and contaminated drinking water for over a month.

The aggrieved residents expressed grave concerns over the quality of the water supplied to the households.Locals claimed that during the ongoing month of Ramazan they have been receiving muddy water supply through taps and that several people have fallen ill due to its usage.

“Have a look at the water supply we are receiving through taps, and unfortunately this happened in this holy month of Ramazan. Somebody from PHE should visit our area to address the concern,” said Mohammad Yousuf, a local resident.

Residents said that they have to boil the water before making it drinkable.

Zaffar Habib Dar, a social and political activist from the area said that their area is suffering due to this muddy and contaminated water supply for over a month now and that nobody from the PHE is bothered to visit their area to ensure clean water supply.

“Everyone doesn’t have water purifiers at home, this water is full of mud and silt, is this the water we will consume? We have brought this into the notice of PHE authorities, hope they mitigate our sufferings”, he said.

Meanwhile, in response to the escalating crisis, a senior PHE official assured action, stating that a team of officials had been dispatched to collect water samples from the area. "If there is any issue, we will see to it," assured the official.
