Beyond The Crowds: Tourists Opt For Serenity In Kashmir's Off-Beat Destination

SRINAGAR: Forget Gulmarg and Pahalgam , tourists are increasingly turning towards lesserknown destinations of Kashmir to explore unseen Kashmir.

The shift towards offbeat destinations reflects a growing trend among travelers to seek out unique and authentic experiences, away from the typical tourist circuits.

As per news agency, with improved accessibility and infrastructure development in these lesser-known areas, more tourists are venturing off the beaten path to discover the hidden treasures of Kashmir.

Take an example of Rangmarg and Gogaldara in Tangmarg area of north Kashmir, these two offbeat places are receiving tourists in large numbers for the last few years.

Rangmarg, nestled in the picturesque Tangmarg area, has been attracting tourists with its lush green meadows, pristine streams, and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.

Away from the hustle and bustle of crowded tourist spots, Rangmarg offers a tranquil retreat for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts alike.

“This spot is becoming people’s favourite now. Apart from locals, tourists now visit this place to enjoy the calm and serene atmosphere. The local ATV service providers played an important role in the promotion of this place. They ferry tourists to this place for sightseeing,” said Nazir Ahmad Khan , a local travel agent.

Bungus Valley, located in the northern part of Kashmir, has also been gaining popularity among tourists seeking offbeat experiences. The valley, known for its stunning landscapes, dense forests, and diverse wildlife, provides visitors with opportunities for trekking, camping, and birdwatching in a tranquil environment.

“Bangus valley is becoming famous for camping and trekking now. We get a large number of tourists, particularly foreigners, who express their will to explore this place," Umar Ahmad, a tour operator, said.

Similarly, Yusmarg, often referred to as the "Meadow of Jesus," has become a preferred destination for travelers looking to escape the crowds and immerse themselves in serene landscapes.

Surrounded by majestic snow-capped peaks and dense forests of pine and fir, Yusmarg offers visitors a chance to indulge in activities like horse riding, hiking, and picnicking amidst breath-taking scenery.

Pertinently, the government last year announced 75 offbeat tourism destinations for tourists in various districts of Jammu and Kashmir—(KNO)
