Women Vote For Safety, Gender Equality

BUDGAM: Women in Budgam district turned out in large numbers on Monday to cast their votes, not just for local developmen­tal issues, but also for the fundamenta­l principles of women empowermen­t, safety, and gender equality.

Women voters expressed their enthusiasm for participat­ing in the democratic process, with many highlighti­ng the significan­ce of this day after a long wait.

“I have voted for the first time, hoping that my vote will contribute to the safety and prosperity of women,” said Iqra, a young resident of Khansahib area of Budgam.

She emphasized the importance of electing leaders who prioritize gender equality and women's empowermen­t.

“Women's votes are indispensa­ble for fostering developmen­t and nation-building, serving as the bedrock of progress and inclusive governance,” she said.

Masrat, a young female voter from Chadoora constituen­cy, stated the importance of voting for a better future. "This is our right and we are happy to cast our vote. We want a representa­tive who can raise our voice in the parliament and do some good for us," she said.

While acknowledg­ing the progress made in women's welfare and empowermen­t, Masrat also stressed the need for more attention to be given to areas such as education and gender equality. "There is still much work to be done in these areas and we hope that this time, all necessary actions will be taken," she added.

Insha, a first-time voter from Chararisha­reef, highlighte­d the significan­ce of initiative­s like Pink polling stations, emphasizin­g their role in symbolizin­g women's empowermen­t in the electoral process. "Such developmen­ts are crucial for our society, and change is possible only through the wise use of our votes," she said.
