Exchange of sweets on border a positive step

Mail Today - - INTERACTIVE -

IT WAS heartening to see that the troops at the Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers exchanged sweets at the Wagah Border in Punjab on the occasion of Diwali.

As a goodwill gesture, the BSF and Pakistan Rangers exchange pleasantries with each other every year on national and religious festivals of the two countries, like Republic Day, Independence Day, Eid and Diwali, despite cross-border tensions.

I hope this step of exchanging sweets will cause to settle down the disputes between both the countries. It has been well said ‘violence begets violence, hatred begets hatred’, so definitely the love will beget love. I am proud of being an Indian, but I never want to see my country indulge in war with Pakistan because it requires a lot of energy and money. Rather we should spend the same money and energy to develop our country by acquiring the modern technology and nuclear powers.
