P V SINDHU and Ki­dambi Srikanth recorded con­trast­ing vic­to­ries to ad­vance to the quar­ter­fi­nals of the China Open World Tour Su­per 750 on Thurs­day. While Sindhu stamped her au­thor­ity with a 21-12, 21-15 win over Thai­land’s Bu­sanan Ong­bam-rung­phan in the sec­ond round, Srikanth got the bet­ter off In­done­sia’s Tommy Su­gia­rto in a three-game match. Srikanth man­aged to script a come-from-be­hind 10-21 21-9 21-9 win over Tommy Su­gia­rto.

ESTEQLAL SCHOOL FROM Afghanistan be­gan their cam­paign pos­i­tively in the Ju­nior Boys (un­der-17) cat­e­gory of the 59th Subroto Cup In­ter­na­tional Foot­ball Tour­na­ment, beat­ing Bap­tist English High School, Ma­nipur 2-0 at the Ambed­kar Sta­dium in New Delhi on Thurs­day. Tak­ing the cue, Bangladesh Krida Shiska Proth­is­tan also won their match against Holy Spirit In­sti­tute, Goa, 3-0 while NNM School from Ker­ala scored 4-0 vic­tory over KNUGIC Pithor­garh. In other matches, NLC Boys School from Tamil Nadu beat Ken­driya Vidyalaya 3-2 in a close en­counter.
