S Delhi users say accounts compromised
AT least 50 Punjab National Bank (PNB) customers on Tuesday evening received cash withdrawal messages on their mobile phones after they used ATMs at New Delhi’s Sheikh Sarai and Malviya Nagar areas, even when the machines didn’t dispense any cash. Suspecting hacking of software by cyber criminals, alarmed customers on Wednesday morning rushed to their respective branches, demanding clarification, transaction details and even compensation.
Branch manager, PNB Malviya Nagar, Sanjay Kumar said that the matter is under investigation. “The complaints are being transferred to the cyber crime cell,” he said. Complainant Rakesh Kumar, protesting at the PNB Sheikh Sarai branch, said: “I used my ATM card on Tuesday evening but the kiosk was unable to dispense cash.
