Bhui’s 150 saves Andhra blushes against Delhi in Ranji
RICKY Bhui turned out to be the saviour for Andhra as the visiting side recovered from top-order failure on Day One to finish at 266 for 7 at stumps against Delhi in the Ranji Trophy encounter on Thursday.
Subodh Bhati (5/35) shined for the home side at the Feroz Shah Kotla as he grabbed his maiden five-wicket haul against Andhra; leaving them reeling at 48/4 at one point.
However, the good work of Bhati was undone by the star of the day Bhui, who slammed other Delhi bowlers throughout the park with 19 boundaries and a maximum.
He was provided support from the other end from lower-order batsmen such as P Girinath Reddy (29), B Shiva Charan Singh (27) and Karn Sharma (31).
Centre of attraction, Gautam Gambhir has a quiet day fielding in the slip for the spinners and on midon for the pacers throughgout the day.
Playing his last first-class match, DDCA made special arrangement for a professional who was painting the live proceeding of Gambhir’s last match.
The former Delhi skipeer dramatically announced his retirement on Tuesday after posting a 11-minute video on his facebook and Twitter handle.
Meanwhile in the match, Bhui added 74 for the fifth wicket with Girinath after the top-order collapse.
It was followed by another 66-run stand with Shiva Charan and subsequently 77 for the seventh wicket with Karn.
Save Bhati, who bowled the perfect length over after over, the inexperienced attack didn’t look menacing as Bhui played shots all round the wicket once he got set.
Debutant left-arm spinner Shivank Vashist (0/58 in 16 overs) was below par and could hardly trouble the batsmen.
Brief Scores: Andhra 266/7 (Ricky Bhui 150 batting, Karn Sharma 31, Subodh Bhati 5/35 in 21 overs).
