ASHLEY LOBO GOES TO THE ‘BIG APPLE’
CHOREOGRAPHER Ashley Lobo has represented India in South Africa, Israel, Germany, Taiwan, Austria and Poland among other countries.
Now he heads to New York along with five choreographers selected from Sweden, Colombia, Lebanon and Uganda, to showcase his version of “home” through movement. Lobo will work with members of Dance
Entropy to perform his 15minute piece on February 16. Founder of The Danceworx Academy and Navdhara India Dance Theatre, Lobo will be showcasing his trademarked Prana Paint technique, described as a “a sensitising approach that explores movement through connectivity, yoga, breath, and touch”.
With ‘Home’ Lobo joins fellow choreographers for a project which aims to “engage with diverse communities to build a sense of connection and shared unde -rstanding across boundaries and cultures”. His interpretation of ‘Home’ is rooted in the belief that “if you are one with you, then you are at home wherever you are. India is a bundle of confusion, but there is a strange order within that confusion which is why it continues to flourish...”
“The acceptance of chaos and order in every part of one’s life, within yourself, your country or home, or the larger universe. Recognising and accepting it all is home,” Lobo shares.
