ICD at Ashuganj planned

The Bangladesh gov­ern­ment plans to de­velop an in­land con­tainer ter­mi­nal at Ashuganj Port for fa­cil­i­tat­ing tran­ship­ment of goods with In­dia through wa­ter­ways. The aim of the ter­mi­nal is to help In­dian con­tain­ers and cargo ves­sels move from one place to the other us­ing Bangladeshi wa­ter­ways un­der the In­land Wa­ter Tran­sit and Trade Pro­to­col be­tween In­dia and Bangladesh. Ashuganj has been nom­i­nated as a ‘Port of Call’ un­der the said pro­to­col. Con­struc­tion of the ter­mi­nal is ex­pected to start in July 2018, with pro­jected com­ple­tion by De­cem­ber 2021. Vol­ume of con­tainer traf­fic on this route is es­ti­mated at more than 400,000 teus.
