Coal In­dia to roll out new mines in FY19

Coal In­dia ex­pects new projects to boost its pro­duc­tion dur­ing 2018-19. Up to 119 ma­jor coal projects that are cur­rently un­der de­vel­oped will con­trib­ute with 322 mil­lion tonnes of es­ti­mated pro­duc­tion dur­ing the cur­rent fis­cal year. These in­clude large-scale projects such as the Kas­munda Open­cast mine, with the ca­pac­ity to pro­duce 50 mil­lion tonnes per an­num, and the Gerva ex­pan­sion project, adding an­other 70 mil­lion tons per an­num.

Cur­rently, Coal In­dia owns 369 mines, in­clud­ing 177 open­cast, 174 un­der­ground, and 18 mixed mines. Last year, these pro­duced 567 mil­lion tonnes, with open­cast mines con­tribut­ing with 536 mil­lion tonnes and un­der­ground ones with 31 mil­lion tonnes.
