HOSPITAL INFRASTRUCTURE POST PANDEMIC DESIGN FOR CENTURY
Pandemic 2020 exposed vulnerability in health planning and designing approach armoured over last 2 decades. It exposed lacunae in newly adpated quality paradigms which global healthcare prided of, and positioned itself on patient centerity. Because of these gaps in overall health delivery , whole global healthcare bore the brunt of severe business losses and denied the patients timely treatment intervention.
Governments world over also shut the door at patients other than CoVId patients thus marking the greatest paradox in the annals of modern healthcare as patients being the core of hospitals !
As worst is getting over on precautionary note, it is time to broaden the visual horizon and factor in unpredictables of future . Epidemic and pandemic proof health delivery infrastructure is eternal need of this century as global village has been increasingly becoming environmentally negative. Let us not take it for granted any more . Let us be completely Aatmanirbhar in healthcare with pandemic proof hospitals. It is high time to initiate collective global endeavour towards pandemic proof infrastructural solutions. Hospitals are not just another buildings and need to be incrementally Value added , Vibrant , and Vigilant. It is irony that despite good pool of healthcare experts and consultants, India does not have a single dedicated institution for hospital planning , designing and research. This gap needs to be filled preferably through PPP mode. As an industry we need to be proactive and shoulder complete responsibility. We need to develop new ratings for pandemic proof hospitals. Institutionally, these pandemic proof hospitals need to be incentivised. In comparative vein, one needs to think of pandemic proof hospitals on the lines of siesmic proof hospitals, as both pandemic and siesmic health delivery facilities must be operationally , environmentally & commercially sustainable.
