TRANSASIA BIO-MEDICALS LTD. COMMITTED TO A HEALTHIER AND HAPPIER WORLD

COMMITTED TO A HEALTHIER AND HAPPIER WORLD

-

The beginnings

Transasia Bio-Medicals Ltd. was started by Mr. Suresh Vazirani, a qualified electrical engineer, who was moved by the lacunae that existed in the Indian healthcare industry. Way back in the 1979, in India there was a dearth of good quality medical devices. And the imported ones that were available often broke down. To make matters worse, after-sales service was a major challenge. This prompted, this young gentleman to shoulder the responsibility of meeting the needs of the medical fraternity for quality and affordable diagnostic solutions. With a measly sum of Rs. 250 and a Rs. 1 lakh loan from a good Samaritan friend, Mr. Suresh Vazirani started Transasia Bio-Medicals Ltd., a provider of after-sales support for imported equipment.

Standing the test of time

But, it was not as simple. At that time, most labs functioned without any automated equipment and required a lot of manual testing, leaving scope for errors. For three years, Mr. Vazirani put in relentless efforts to convince pathologists on the benefits of automated blood analyzers. However, these equipment were imported and not suited to the highly fragmented, price-sensitive markets in India with its poor infrastructure and expertise. And this paved the path for setting up of Transasia’s manufacturing facility to provide Made in India, high quality equipment for affordable and accessible diagnostics.

Reaching out to the world

Transasia soon started expanding its reach not just in India, but also globally. It was among the first Indian IVD Companies to receive a CE and US FDA certification for its products, thus opening the gates for its entry into the European markets. Mr. Vazirani soon setup Erba Mannheim, Germany and combined efficient, low-cost manufacturing and unparalleled market expertise to make world-class European technology accessible to emerging markets.

Making in India for the World

Transasia has been endorsing the ‘Make in India’ concept since the early 1990s, long before it formally came into prominence. Its state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Mumbai, Daman, Baddi, Sikkim and Vizag are ISO, ICMED and US FDA-compliant and employ GMP. Transasia is also the first IVD Company in India to be awarded the ZED Diamond Quality rating from the Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India and the Quality Council of India for its exports-oriented manufacturing facility at Mumbai.

R&D forms the core of Transasia’s long-term growth strategy. At its R&D centres of excellence in France, Austria, UK, India, Czech Republic and USA, the company constantly innovates to always be ahead in the game. Transasia-Erba products are arduously tested and validated in the most extreme condition to ensure uncompromising performance for its users.

He has also been felicitated by Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Hon’ble Minister of Science & Technology, Govt. of India as the ‘Pioneer for Make in India Concept’ initiative in 2015.

Shaping the future of the Indian IVD industry

The COVID-19 pandemic brought to the forefront the need for quality diagnostic infrastructure as the first step to contain the spread of infection. For Transasia, more than ever before the focus is now on preventive diagnostics.

Through cohesive collaboration between domain experts in India and abroad, the Transasia-Erba Group has introduced COVID testing kits of high sensitivity and specificity in molecular and ELISA formats. Going forward, there will be a need for Indian manufacturers to scale up production. The setting up of

Transasia’s world-class manufacturing facility at AMTZ, Vishakhapatnam, is an answer to this foresight. The facility is the first of its kind and largest in Asia for COVID-19 products. In the future, this facility will serve as the global hub for all infectious tests such as TB, Malaria, HIV, Hepatitis etc.

Additionally, Transasia has already announced the setting up of its sixth manufacturing facility at Medtech Park in Telangana. This facility will be dedicated to cater to biochemistry, hematology, immunology and molecular tests important for prevention of lifestyle diseases such as cardiac and diabetes as well as dengue and TB tests for domestic and export markets. The company is also looking at doubling its R&D spend and accelerating its long-term growth to drive revenue synergies and efficiencies.

Between now and 2023, Transasia’s R&D labs in France, UK, US, Austria and India will launch over 10 exciting, state of-the-art instruments in the fields of CLIA, molecular, high-end hematology, artificial intelligence and LIS, among others. Also in the offing is a “Total Lab Automation” solution aimed at mid- and large size laboratories. All these will soon make Erba-Transasia among the top-five companies globally to have ‘Total solutions in Laboratory Diagnostics. Providing end-to-end services with an emphasis on training will continue to remain most relevant to Transasia, as the need for knowledge and competencies continues to increase.
