DEADLY COVID-19 2.0

-

The deadly second wave of COVID-19 has been devastating India, putting much pressure on the overly burdened healthcare system of the country. The second wave has hit the nation in mid of March and since then there has been a sudden surge in the number of cases making India the second worst-hitting in the world. This situation has caused overcrowding in the hospitals leading to the lack of beds for the patients, shortage of oxygen available in the country. This is the time where it becomes important that than ever take maximum precautions towards one’s health. The exponential rise in the number of cases has caused desperate call for help by number of people who are unable to reach out basic medical care. It also becomes the responsibility of the citizens as well to wear masks maintain social distancing and follow the curfew guidelines for their safety. A severe disobedience of the guidelines has caused the whole COVID situation to turn into havoc.

The new variant that has emerged in India is called B.1.617, which has been dubbed as a ‘double mutant’ because of the two key mutants on the spike of the virus. The recent report by the Lancet claims that the mutated virus is airborne, this makes the usage of masks much more important than ever. This could be the major reason for the fast-spreading of the double mutant virus in the country.

The medical aids pouring from around the world to support India during the crises shows the solidarity among the nations. India has decided to accept the foreign aid for the first time in 16 years. This is time we join hand together and contribute in helping our frontline workers by taking care of ourselves and reduce the pressure on them.
