MDD works on four basic principals of “Oxygen Supply System” which is major parameter of Critical Care Medical infrastructure. Oxygen Supply System -> Identity of supply, Quantity of supply, Continuity of supply, Quality of supply.
MDD follow 10 basic rules of medical gas supply system for safety and durability:
• MDD follow NHS Department of Health “Health Technical Memorandum 0201” guidelines.
• MDD design and calculate “flow rate and pressure drop calculations” as 1st step.
• MDD impellent “design schemes for medical gas pipe line system” as 2nd step.
• MDD supply single standard & single make of medical gas pipe line products which fully complies, meets with medical device regulations or medical devices directive 93/42/EEC under the auspices of notified body no. and under this directive, med gas products are classified as Class IIa or IIb medical devices for safety and durability.
• MDD provide Third party validifications of installed complete medical gas pipe line system from a notified validification officer with yearly audits.

How the technological advancements in the Medical industry has changed the face of medical science in India?
It is time to ensure full proof oxygen systems in Hospitals.
Oxygen supply system to provide a safe, convenient and life saving effective system for the provision of oxygen to the clinical and nursing staff at the point-of-use. This is achieved by installing, as a minimum, three source of supply
and each source should have duplex components and providing additional means of supply provision in the event of failure of the primary supply system, secondary supply system and emergency supply system. It should be ensured by the use of gaseous or liquid sources that are provided to an appropriate product specification, usually a recognized European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.) monogram. In the case of compressorbased systems, filtration equipment to a known and agreed standard is installed. To ensure that the product is not adulterated in the distribution system, pipeline installations and components are required to meet agreed specifications. There are strict Ph. Eur. requirements & as per international standards for medical gases. These unprecedented times affected the healthcare industry to its core. How can the Med Tech industry helping contribute to patient care? Operational management -- The safe operation of a medical gas pipeline system relies on skilled staff who understand the system and who can liaise with clinical users to ensure continuing patient safety. The key to safe operational management lies with the users of medical gas supply systems similarly need to be aware of the nature of the systems in order to understand the purpose of warning and alarm systems, and to participate in the safe operation of the systems. They should be familiar with the systems and be able to isolate them in the event of an emergency such as damage to terminal units within the clinical space, or in the event of a fire. A comprehensive operational policy that covers these various aspects is essential. Operating staff responsible for the safe handling and use of medical gas cylinders, LMO, PSA plants, Medical air plant, Medical Vacuum plants should receive specific training before start of operations. This document should list key personnel involved in the operation, maintenance and use of the system. This will include nominated medical and nursing staff, risk managers/fire safety officers, pharmacy staff and the quality controller for the site, and competent personnel.
Warning and alarm systems with LCD digital display should be provided to give information to the staff who are responsible for operating the MGPS, changing cylinders, responding to plant faults, and to the medical staff responsible for the administration of medical gases and clinical users.
The MGPS operational policy should clearly set out the responsibilities and the procedures to be followed for all work on the pipeline.It is a recommendation that all maintenance work on an MGPS should only be carried out by specialist contractors who have permit to work licence. Patient safety is paramount when carrying out any work on an MGPS and should be given priority over cost, although it is recognised that contracts are managed to be as cost-effective as possible.
MGPS companies should satisfy the trust that the maintenance tasks comply with the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations. The mgps company should be issued licence and permit to work. MGPS companies must have team of competenet person and team of authorised person (MGPS) working in there company. Test Equipment : Mgps companies should provide all appropriate test equipment, having identified the test equipment appropriate to each task in the method statement will save lifes. The test equipment should be calibrated in accordance with the manufacturers’ recommendations, but in any case against recognised national standards at a frequency of no. less than half yearly.
