TRAILBLAZING PATIENT MONITORING: AML

- Aditya Kohli CFO & Director – Sales Allied Medical limited

Healthcare is a field that is rapidly developing in technology and services. A recent development in this area is central monitoring of all patients in the critical care which has many advantages in a fast-aging world population with increasing health complications and several contagious diseases like COVID-19. With relatively simple applications to monitor patients inside hospital rooms, the technology has developed to the extent that all parameter of the infected patients is being monitored with very minimum of contact using the modern communication and sensor technologies. Thanks to the technological advancements in the medical and electronic field that precise and meticulous sensors for monitoring essential vital signs such as electrocardiogram reading, heart rate, respiration rate, blood pressure, temperature, blood glucose levels and neural system activity are available today. Range of patient monitors are available on the market from monitoring chronically ill patients, elders, premature children to victims of accidents. The new technologies can monitor patients based on the illness or situation of the patient. The technology varies from sensors attached to body to ambient sensors attached to the environment. Sensor failure detection systems and applications to monitor chronical ill patients have already become familiar to many.

The current COVID-19 pandemic has also accelerated the rate at which artificial intelligence and technologies are being integrated into healthcare to decrease exposure among healthcare and non-healthcare workers. Socialdistancing and quarantine measures have reduced the number of people with COVID-19 who need intensive in-hospital resources. In India, according to a report by Transparency Market Research, the patient monitoring market is predicted to grow at a significant CAGR of 16.3% from ;2017-25. Technology-assisted assessment of vital signs, such as pulse rate, body temperature, blood pressure, and respiration rate, can be used to assess home-isolated or quarantined people, provide basic care to others, and determine times at which home care may no longer be appropriate. Patient monitors are an integral hospital and healthcare centres. This device measures, documents, and dispenses vital patients’ statistics, also known as biometric values, such as body temperature, blood oxygen saturation (SPO2), heart rate, blood pressure and other typologies of information. However, reports say that these monitors, which are also used in ICUS, provide the readings which are not enough when it comes to critical cases.

During a life and death situation, doctors require the minutest of data to take the next viable step which can save the life of a person. These data points are then used by doctors or other medical staff to analyse the patient’s condition and chart a for further treatment/ diagnosis. Patient monitoring is critical for perioperative patient safety as anaesthesiologists routinely make crucial therapeutic decisions from the information displayed on patient monitors. Allied Medical Limited (AML) offers wide range of patient monitor best suited as per the requirement of the hospital setups. AML offers arrays of monitors having preconfigured, semi-modular or fully modular configuration. Fully modular monitor comes with a portable monitor having a display manifesting the vital parameters of the patient. The transport monitor can be effortlessly detached and carried for shifting the patient either within the hospital or intra hospital. Each model can be easily unified with any of the hospital integration software or electronic health record system thus increasing accuracy and decreasing the burden of obtaining and documenting patients. AML also offers its dedicated Central Monitoring station where in more than 50 monitors can be linked onto exclusive nursing station without being there in a closed proximity of the infected patients.
