Pune is becoming a hub for Medical Tourism due to its low treatment costs, excellent infrastructure meeting international standards, and highly qualified doctors. The city's connectivity and medical expertise are boosting its appeal. Pune now has numerous tertiary care facilities in every part of the city, offering specialized services in various fields. Infact people from various parts of the state and country come to Pune for treatment. After the pandemic, patient numbers at Sahyadri Hospitals have increased, with around 500 patients from countries like Yemen, Iraq, Oman, Tanzania, and Nigeria seeking treatments like Oncology, Orthopedics, spine surgeries, and organ like liver and kidney transplants in the current financial year (April-august 2022).

What are your hospital's plans and projects aimed at enhancing patient care or expanding services?

Sahyadri Hospitals, the largest hospital chain in Western India, plans significant growth in the next 3 to 4 years, doubling its capacity with a Rs 750 crore investment. The 9th hospital will launch in Navi Mumbai, expanding to Thane, Pimpri Chinchwad, Nagpur, Solapur, Kolhapur, Pune, Nashik, and other cities. The focus is on increasing bed capacity and specialized medical care to bridge healthcare gaps. Sahyadri aims to provide highquality healthcare through upcoming projects, mergers, and acquisitions, ensuring broader access to services across Western India.

How are you seeing the Medical Tourism Industry in India?

India has fantastic medical facilities, but we need a better plan for medical tourism. Right now, it's a bit confusing because people can choose any hospital they want. We believe the government should step in to guide patients. If someone needs a specific treatment, like neurosurgery, the government should suggest the best place for it. Each hospital's specialties and quality should be checked by the government, and they can give clear suggestions to patients.

We also think prices could be lower if we get rid of middlemen. The government could help organize travel for patients to places with good healthcare, even outside big cities. This way, people can get the best medical care without spending too much money.
