Rupee fluctuation to increase domestic MICE

The MICE segment seems very bullish and has matured a lot in the last decade. The rate of such trips have increased tremendously globally. 2013 was a mixed bag for the travel industry in India, with the weakening of conversion rates to the US dollar and taxation issues. MICE movement will continue to the US, Australia, Scotland and South Africa. Abu Dhabi will be the new Middle East destination in 2014. These countries have excellent MICE products and the ‘wow’ value never diminishes. For India, 2014 being the year for the General Elections, we may witness a slowdown in MICE travel, especially in the first quarter of the year. However, the Ministry of Tourism has turned its attention to it and we are expecting movement in the third and fourth quarters. Alternatively, demand for domestic MICE is expected to increase due to rupee fluctuation, and companies are looking forward to exploring domestic destinations to make the most of their restricted budgets.
