An Irish Affair Dublin
Ireland is not only a great destination for leisure but also makes for an attractive MICE country. Dublin is where all the action is— not just after hours but during business hours as well—with the Convention Centre Dublin as well as nifty standalones.
Synonymous with ‘fun’, the Emerald Isle has lots more up its sleeve than just boisterous shindigs celebrating its pub culture. Ireland offers world-class facilities for MICE that are on par with other international destinations, particularly its capital and Ireland’s largest city of Dublin. In fact, the mandate for promoting Ireland as a MICE destination, in India and elsewhere, comes under the purview of Tourism Ireland.
Huzan Fraser Motivala, Representative for Tourism Ireland for India, informs that in the last two years, there have been at least five corporate groups of 50 delegates and up visiting Dublin each year.
Meeting Facilities
Talking about the various measures Tourism Ireland undertakes to reach out to corporates and incentivise them, Motivala says, “We have a programme specifically for corporates called ‘Meet in Ireland’ which offers them a suite of financial and practical supports. We host the eligible partners’ recce trips as well as host an event equivalent to a certain amount for them in Ireland.” For Dublin, the minimum requirement is 150 delegates, generating a minimum of 400 bed-nights. Financial supports, on the other hand, broadly fall into three main categories and generally involve contribution towards – site inspections, welcome reception, social excursions, transportation, entertainment support, delegate bags, etc. Larger delegations of more than 1,000 delegates may attract more funding.
