MICE had rea­sons to smile in June. It was Global Ex­hi­bi­tion Day on June 8. And In­dia was among the coun­tries cel­e­brat­ing this day. In­dia has huge po­ten­tial as a 365-day des­ti­na­tion. And the coun­try can lever­age this po­ten­tial for growth in MICE too. Our cover story re­volves around the soft gen­der in this seg­ment. Women have been scal­ing heights in most places but MICE is among few of the tougher in­dus­tries to be in. Like hospi­tal­ity and the ser­vices sec­tor, it de­mands a lot of time and fre­quent travel. And for In­dian women, this is a con­straint. Nev­er­the­less there are brave­hearts here and these women have spent many years in the in­dus­try. Among the des­ti­na­tions, not far from In­dia, where MICE is gain­ing ground are Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah. The two emi­rates of­fer ex­cit­ing ac­tiv­i­ties and plenty of venues for meet­ings and gath­er­ings. But In­dia doesn’t lack good venues ei­ther. There are many ho­tels as most ci­ties are now geared for busi­ness. In Hy­der­abad, ho­tel brands are fo­cus­ing on get­ting more MICE busi­ness. And close to Delhi, Jaipur is gain­ing ground. It is not only a tourism hub but is emerg­ing as a busi­ness hub as well.
