Ramadan market: Covid norms must

- OUR CORRESPONDENT

KOLKATA: With Ramadan starting from Wednesday, vendors at Ramadan fruit bazaar in Zakaria Street would follow Covid protocol while selling items for the festival. Last year, the bazaar was not set up in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.

Around 65 stalls would be set up at the bazaar for a month, said Md Imran Rafi, a fruit seller at Machua.

Zakaria Street, located around the magnificent Nakhoda Masjid, is a foodie’s delight. Fruits, gram chat, sharbat, onion chops, potato chops and snacks are sold in these special markets during the holy month of Ramzan in the evening. “Proper COVID-19 protocol will be maintained by the vendors and purchasers in the Ramadan fruit bazaar. All the vendors selling fruits will wear masks,” said Mohammad Siraj, another fruit seller.
