Single-day cases reach 4,817; 20 reported dead

KOLKATA: Covid graph continues to go up in Bengal as single day infection has reached 4,817 while the figure on Monday stood at 4,511. The number of active Covid cases however stands at 29,050. On Monday active cases remained at 26,531.

The State has so far reported 6,24,224 Covid cases out of which 5,84,740 patients have already been released from the hospitals. Around 2,278 patients have been discharged in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, amid rising cases in Hoogly district the administra­tion of Tarakeswar temple decided to not allow devotees to enter the sanctum sanctorum of the shrine.

The State Health department on Tuesday conducted 1289 sessions and around 1,13,710 people were vaccinated across the state. Around 76,413 people took the first dose on Tuesday while 31,035 took the second dose. Bengal has so far carried out 83.44 lakh vaccinatio­ns till Tuesday. No adverse events following immunizati­on (AEFI) were reported on Tuesday. On Monday, around 2,44,560 people received vaccinatio­n across the State.

Health experts apprehend that the severity of Covid infection may go up further. The Covid recovery rate on Tuesday stood at 93.67 percent. The percentage of positive cases out of the sample tested stands at 6.51.

The percentage of occupancy of Covid beds in the State jumped to 31.09 on Tuesday while the figure of Monday remained at 28.15. The state has so far carried out 95,89,378 Covid sample tests out of which

42,214 were performed in the past 24 hours.

Bengal has seen the highest death on Tuesday since the infection curve started flattening from the latter half of the last year. Around 20 people died of Covid across Bengal in the past 24 hours. The total death toll in the state has reached 10,434. Kolkata has registered 11 deaths in the past 24 hours while North 24-Parganas has seen 4, Howrah and Hooghly two each. West Burdwan has seen one death.

Kolkata in the past 24 hours has registered 1,271 fresh cases followed by North 24-Parganas 1,134. The total death toll

in Kolkata has so far reached 3,168. North 24-Parganas has lost 2,560 people so far. The tally of infected patients in Kolkata has gone up to 1,43,742 while North 24-Parganas has so far seen a total 1,34,710. South 24-Parganas has registered 298 new Covid cases in the past 24 hours. The total number of Covid infected patients in South 24-parganas has gone up 40,238.

There are around 1,796 ICU/HDU beds functional in Covid hospitals. Around 525 ventilator­s are still functionin­g in Covid hospitals. The total number of earmarked Covid beds stood at 7,428 on Tuesday.
