Fifth phase: EC to deploy 853 companies of Central forces

KOLKATA: The Election Commission will deploy 853 companies of Central forces for the fifth phase of elections in Bengal scheduled to be held on April 17 in which 45 Assembly Constituen­cies (ACs) spanning across Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and parts of North 24-Parganas, Nadia and East Burdwan are going to polls.

The highest deployment of 283 companies will be in North 24-Parganas in which 16 ACs will be going to polls.

There will be 69 companies for Barasat Police District, 69 companies for Barrackpor­e Police Commission­erate, 107 companies for Basirhat and 46 companies for Bidhannaga­r, which has 1014 booths.

There will be 122 companies for seven seats in Jalpaiguri district, 68 companies for four seats in Darjeeling, 53 companies for Siliguri and 21 companies for Kalimpong with 301 booths.

There will be 151 companies for the eight constituen­cies in Nadia district and 155 companies for 8 constituen­cies in East Burdwan.

The number of sector offices in the fifth phase will be 690 with one SI or ASI of state police being in charge.

Each sector will have four police constables.

There will be 1071 companies of Central forces in the elections out of which 853 will be directly involved with the 5th phase of polls.

The total number of polling booths in the 5th phase will be 15789 with 342 candidates in poll fray.
