Jawans lunching with BJP nominee 48 hrs before polls: TMC
KOLKATA: The TMC on Friday alleged that a section of Central force jawans was having lunch with BJP candidate from Ranaghat North East Assembly constituency 48 hours ahead of the polls in the segment. The party also demanded a probe into the matter.
However, the Election Commission stated that “no such incident took place”. The election in the Assembly segment will be held on April 17.
TMC MP Mahua Moitra posted a photograph showing the jawans consuming lunch with BJP's candidate Ashim Biswas.
“BJP candidate for Ranaghat North East (Phase 5 Poll tomorrow) at lunch with central forces... @ECISVEEP please investigate and take action now,” Moitra tweeted on Friday morning.

claimed that the Central force was being operated from the “office of Union Home Minister Amit Shah”.
According to the EC, “as reported by both BDO, Hanskhali and BDO, Ranaghat-II, no such incident took place in that area”. Uploading the findings of the EC, Moitra later tweeted: “In response to our complaint with photo and details on Ranaghat NE BJP candidate sharing meal with CAPF @ECISVEEP says “no such incident took place” Come on @ECISVEEP - some shame please! Then file an FIR against me for morphing the photo.”
