Six lakh doses of Covishield arrive

Many journalist­s have already fallen victim to Covid

KOLKATA: Around 6 lakh doses of Covishield arrived in the city on Friday. The vaccinatio­n process slowed down slightly in some Covid vaccinatio­n centres (CVCs) across the state due to shortage of vaccinatio­n doses. On Wednesday, 3 lakh doses of Covishield and 2 lakh doses of Covaxin arrived.

Vaccinatio­n programme was conducted by the state government at Kolkata Press Club on Friday. Doctors and nurses from NRS Medical College and Hospital administer­ed the doses on 83 journalist­s and photojourn­alists. The entire vaccinatio­n process was monitored by the state

Health department. Kolkata Press Club already supported the demand raised by the Press Council of India, Press Club of India and Editors Guild to vaccinate the journalist­s below the age of 45. In a statement, the Kolkata Press Club stated that vaccinatio­n of journalist­s below 45 is crucial as the Covid infection is going up in rapid space. Meanwhile, many journalist­s have already fallen victim to Covid.
