Cops prosecute 263 in a day, for not wearing mask

KOLKATA: Kolkata Police on Friday prosecuted around 263 people for not wearing masks which is the highest prosecutio­n given in a single day in past three months.

After the vaccinatio­n drive started, a large number of people were seen not wearing masks. Despite doctors are trying make people aware that everybody need to wear a mask even after their vaccinatio­n, people were seen not following the norms.

According to senior Kolkata Police officials, keeping the present situation in mind, all the police stations have been instructed to put more stress on mass awareness campaign as well as prosecutin­g the Covid protocol violators. The figure of Covid infected people are increasing day by day. The Covid bulletin published on Saturday shows that in past 24 hours 7,713 more people have been infected with Covid virus. Also 34 persons have died of Covid infection during the same period.

On Saturday till 12 pm, 130 people across the city were prosecuted for not wearing a mask. But the figure jumped to 263 till 8 pm.

Subhankar Sinha Sarkar, Joint Commission­er of Police, Headquarte­rs said, “actions are being taken regularly against the Covid protocol violators. All the police stations have been asked to aware people through public address system.”
