A SAD DEMISE

-

The passing away of the veteran poet and cultural sage Sankha Ghosh creates a void in India nay west Bengal. With India becoming almost lacklustre presently due to COVID-19 threat the death of this senescent but vibrant and cultural stalwart, disappoints all classes of people, especially in the West Bengal. A millenarian, spotlight and unique poet, his contribution is immense and he was the guardian of the cultural world. He was affable and soft-spoken who opened the vistas of life. He was like the shade for cultural aspirants. Ghosh believed in solitude. This respected poet was dynamic and arrived everywhere with people’s love. Recipient of many awards and accolades this unpretentious poet was never seen exuberant with his pen power. He had received Padma Bhusan, Deshikottam, Rabindra award, Gyanpith award, Saraswati award, Sahitya Academy and others for his famous and responsive works like “Nihito patal saya”, “Babrer parthana”, ”Panjore darer sabda”, “Dhum legechhe rith kamala”, “Proti prasne kepe othe vite”, “Hasi khusi mukhe sarbanash”, “Mukh dheke jay bigyapane” and others. A luminary of poetic language this poet had lifted his poems to a new world and the readers latched on to enormously. As his poems present the essence of life, young readers are riveted with his creations. Only absence they’ll be feeling from their poet of heart is that he is no more who used to speak to the heart and with buttoned-up voice would call them — Ki likhli re (What do you write, my brothers)! We have nothing but to stand with tears holding Joss-stick, not knowing whether it’s burning.
